Troubleshooting Tips for your tag-it™ Tracker

September 22, 2023 | By Jordan Fargo | 3 mins to read

Why isn’t the tag-it™ turning on?

Ensure that the tag tracker’s battery is installed correctly. The battery lasts about 6 months under normal use, and may need to be replaced if the alarm was used too frequently. Only use a CR2032 battery with the tag-it™ Tracker. Do not use any other kind of battery—this will cause your luggage tracker tag to not turn on or work properly.

It’s crucial to set up the tracker correctly, exactly as written in the User Guide. Clean the entire tracker with a soft, dry cloth, as any dirt, dust, or debris may interfere with its alarm or Bluetooth connection to your device.

Only use and store the tag-it™ in a cool, dry environment, away from heat sources, high humidity, and extremely high or low temperatures. These conditions could cause the tag-it™ to not function optimally or turn on. Its operating temperature range is -4° – 158°F. If your tagged object (your car or luggage, for example) has moved to an extremely hot or cold space, then the tracker may not turn on or alert you when the item is out of range.

If all of the above troubleshooting tips do not result in the tag-it™ turning on, then there may be an issue with its internal circuitry. Never attempt to disassemble, modify, or repair your Bluetooth tag tracker in any way, as this may cause serious injury, electric shock, and/or irreversible damage to the product. Instead, please call or email us at support@tzumi.com or 1-855-GO-TZUMI right away. An experienced customer service representative will be more than happy to assist you.

Why isn’t the tag-it™ connecting to my device?

If you find that your tag-it™ tracker isn’t connecting to your device, we recommend you follow these troubleshooting suggestions. First, ensure that both the tag tracker and your device are sufficiently charged/have enough battery power, and are turned on.

Make sure your smartphone is compatible with Bluetooth version 4.0 or higher, and that its Bluetooth function is enabled. It will not pair to the tracker if its Bluetooth is not at least version 4.0, or if it is not turned on. We recommend that you only use the tag-it™ with Apple devices with iOS version 12.0 and up. If you’re using the tag-it™ with an Android device, we recommend only using it with devices that feature Android system 8.0 and up.

The tag-it™ Tracker requires the app to be running in the background to be connected to the device. Download or update the tag-it™ app on the App Store or the Google Play Store. Some devices may completely close the app after a set period or put it to sleep, which will cause the tag-it™ Tracker to disconnect.

What should I do if the tag-it™ won’t ring?

The tag-it™ Tracker’s connection to your device may be weakened or lost due to interference from surrounding conditions (such as certain buildings or environments). The tracker’s operating distance is 49 – 98 ft., except when there are barriers or load-bearing walls. Move it to a wide-open area that’s not surrounded by large buildings or anything else that may impede any sort of electrical signal.

Again, check that the tag-it™ app is running on your device, and that the tag-it™ tracker’s battery is not out of power. Go into the app’s settings, and make sure that the “Alarm when disconnect” setting is set up the way you need.
