FAQs

In the event that your lavalier microphone won’t turn on, it’s possible that its battery may be positioned incorrectly inside the battery compartment. Open the compartment and make sure the battery is correctly installed and polarity symbols are aligned. The battery may have low power. Replace it with a new LR44, 357, or SR44 battery. Without the right battery, your mic will not turn on.

It’s also possible that the mic’s battery compartment is dirty. Open the battery compartment and carefully clean it with a soft, dry, cotton swab. Always keep the battery and its compartment dry and clean. Do not use the lava mic if the battery gets wet.

You should only use and store the ON AIR Battery-Powered Lavalier Microphone in a cool, dry environment, away from extremely high or low temperatures, high humidity, water, and other liquids. It’s also crucial to keep the microphone away from pets and children, as this product is not a toy, and they can seriously damage the mic if left unattended with it.

Plus, make sure to turn the microphone off once you’re done using it. It may not turn on right away if it has been left on for an extended period of time.

If the above troubleshooting tips do not result in your lavalier microphone turning on, then there may be an issue with its internal circuitry. Never attempt to disassemble, modify, or repair your microphone in any way, as this may cause serious injury, electric shock, and/or irreversible damage to the product. Instead, please call or email us at support@tzumi.com or 1-855-GO-TZUMI right away. An experienced customer service representative will be more than happy to assist you.

Again, check that the microphone is powered off after each use. It may run out of power too quickly if it has been left on (in the Camera position). Turn the microphone off by moving the switch to the Smartphone (OFF) position.

Remember to also store it properly, in a cool, dry, and secluded space that’s out of direct sunlight. You may be using the lavalier mic in extremely hot or cold conditions, or in spaces with high humidity. These environments will drain the battery quickly.

The battery inside the microphone may be old, incorrectly inserted into the battery compartment, leaking, or damaged. Be sure to replace the battery as soon as you notice the microphone running out of power too quickly.

If you still have issues with the lavalier mic running out of power faster than expected, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us for further assistance at any time.

Check that the microphone is placed as close to the subject (speaker) as possible. Reposition and attach the microphone to clothing upside-down. This reduces excessive noise from breathing and tonal inconsistencies caused by head movements.

Gently slide the foam windscreen over the microphone. We recommend using the windscreen at all times to avoid excess wind, breathing, and other noise from being picked up on the mic, even when recording indoors. This will ensure the highest audio quality regardless of where you are. Keep the lapel clip approximately 6 inches away from your mouth, to block out unwanted noise as much as possible.

Remember that some ambient noise is unavoidable, and should be expected when used in loud environments.

Ensure that nothing is covering or hitting the microphone, and that it is close enough to the audio source. Check that your smartphone, tablet, or other device has a TRS-compatible input jack, so that it can be connected to the microphone properly. If you are unsure that your device is compatible, check the User Guide that came with your device, and reach out to our Customer Service team if necessary.

If the microphone won’t record your audio, make sure that the 3.5mm AUX connector is fully and securely connected to your recording device’s input/AUX jack (see diagram for reference). If your smartphone or tablet uses a case, you may need to remove the case first for the unit to be fully inserted. Make sure that your device is recording audio (and that any app you use is working properly).

Again, we highly recommend that you use the foam windscreen on the microphone if the audio is poor. Your surroundings may be interfering with the microphone’s operation. Place the clip on your clothing no further than 6 inches (15-20 cm) away from your face for better audio.

There are a few features to pay attention to if you’re in the market for a new lavalier microphone. No matter what you hope to use it for, it’s important to do your research so that you can buy the ideal lav mic to suit your needs and give you the best audio possible.
